Hatchet Lake: Last Stop on Data Collection Tour of Athabasca

The community-based project on special needs - the Athabasca Community Research Partnership, is nearing completion.  This past month, researcher Raissa Graumans travelled to Wollaston Lake to meet with families, professionals and community members of the Hatchet Lake First Nation.

The cold weather meant that Raissa was able to have her first (albeit brief) experience of an ice road!

While the weather was cold, the community was warm and welcoming, sharing a wealth of stories and experience related to disabilities.

Raissa held interviews at the local ADCFS office and at the Clinic.

She also presented the project to the community at the Band Meeting held on January 10th.

As the last of the three Athabasca communities represented in the project, the information provided by Hatchet Lake participants is invaluable when making sense of the service landscape as well as the needs and impacts experienced by the communities of this region.

Raissa will be returning to Hatchet – as well as to Black Lake and Fond du Lac, in February during their 3-day Family Conferences.  She will be sharing the results of the project and collecting the communities' feedback and reaction to the project findings.
