Funded by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), the Saskatchewan First Nations Child & Family Service Agency Prevention Network has been in existence since May 2015. The network gathers regularly to share practices, successes, challenges and to provide guidance to approved SFNFCI prevention projects. SFNFCI coordinates the meetings of the network.
The Prevention Network met at Saskatoon Inn on May 4, 2022. It was a mix of in-person and online. Zoom meeting platform was used to make the meeting accessible for participants. There were 19 participants in attendance, 7 online and 12 in-person, representing 15 agencies, and FSIN. Attendance also included 4 SFNFCI staff and Elder Ernestine Starr.
At every meeting, during the roundtable, an opportunity is given for every prevention worker in attendance to share the work taking place within their community. At the roundtable we heard about spring programming, the activities being planned for National Indigenous day, grief and loss workshops being offered, and youth activities. Besides giving updates to one another on programming taking place in the community, the roundtable provides an opportunity for each agency to gather ideas on programming they can offer in their community.
After the roundtable SFNFCI staff made presentations and provided updates. Prevention curriculum updates came from Curriculum Developer Scott Stephens, and Prevention Policy and Standards from Director of Research and Curriculum Shelley Thomas Prokop. A new Prevention Guidelines and Standards document was presented and handed out to the participants. Learning operations Consultant David Bird shared a year-end-review and talked about the 2022-2023 training Calendar
Next meeting date: July 6, 2022
