Community Research in Black Lake

The Athabasca Community Research Project is in full swing.

This month Raissa travelled to Black Lake, spending 5 days in the community.  She worked closely with ADCFS staff, who participated by sharing their stories and helped to coordinate interview schedules and other project details.

A huge thanks to these dedicated project partners:

L-R:  Jacqueline Hale, Joyce Roy, Doreen Sayazie,  Rose Mary Campbell

As an important part of the project, local Advisory Committees help to guide the research process adding valuable input to the approach, scope, and relevance of this work.  In Black Lake committee representatives included band coucillors, Eileen MacDonald (Education Coordinator) and Evelyn Throassie (Health Director) who contributed their knowledge and expertise in two pertinent areas:  education and health.

Together with the stories and information gathered from families, professionals, and the ADCFS Board of Directors, these contributions help to further our understanding of the experiences of children in community living with special needs.

As the project moves forward, Raissa will be travelling to Fond du Lac and Hatchet Lake, so check back for future blog updates or contact Raissa directly for additional information or to sign up for the monthly Project Update:   raissa@sfnfci.ca    306-373-2874  x223
